Autumn Art Exhibitions 2021

The last time I made one of these lists was back in December 2019. Feels good to be able to do it again... hopefully we won't have any bad relapses of the virus which would cause them to have to close museums again. Fingers crossed! In the meantime, if you have plans to visit Stockholm in the coming months, here are the ongoing and planned exhibitions at the major art museums in Stockholm:

• Fotografiska (photography)- some highlights: "Introspection" will be showing until Oct 17th. One upcoming exhibition is "Nude" (Sept 3rd to Nov 28th).
• Nationalmuseum (classic art & design)- Their permanent collection "The Timeline" always has free admission. Their main upcoming exhibition is "Scandinavian Design & USA" (Oct 14th to Jan 9th).

• Moderna Museet (modern art)- The museum's permanent collection always has free admission. Several temporary exhibitions include the ongoing "In Lady Barclay's Salon" (until Jan 9th) and the upcoming "Alternative Secrecy" (Oct 23rd to Feb 20th). 
• ArkDes (architecture & design)- They currently have the exhibition "Architecture in Sweden" (until Dec 31st) and we can look forward to "Sigurd Lewerentz: Architect of Death and Life" (Oct 1st to Aug 28th).

• Millesgården (art, design and sculpture)- Many people come to Millesgården to see the wonderful sculpture park with the work of Carl Milles, but they also have an art museum with temporary exhibitions. Currently they are showing the work of Stig Lindberg (until Jan 30th) and will soon be opening the exhibition "Liselotte Watkin's Italy" (Sep 4th to Nov 21st).
• Thielska Galleriet (Scandinavian art)- Besides their permanent collection, containing the work of many Scandinavian masters, they have temporary exhibtions like the ongoing "Hjalmar Söderberg and the Visual Arts" (until Jan 9th) and the upcoming exhibition with the work of Carl Johan De Geer (Oct 16th to Mar 6th).

• Prins Eugen Waldemarsudde (Scandinavian art)- Besides Prince Eugen's private collection, they also have temporary exhibitions like "Future Nordic Fashion" (until Oct 3rd) and "A Room of One's Own" (Sept 11th to Jan 23rd) plus several others.
• Liljevalchs (contemporary art)- They have several ongoing and upcoming exhibitions, like with architect Gert Wingårdh (until Oct 17th) and the upcoming celebration of Liljevalch's 100 anniversary (Oct 15th to Jan 16th). 
• Artipelag (art & sculpture in archipelago setting)- They are continuing with their exhibition "Rolf Hanson - Retroactive" (until Nov 28th). They also have their permanent "Sculpture in Nature" in the forest around the museum.

• Bonniers Konsthall (contemporary art)- Their ongoing exhibition is "Dity Evidence" (until Nov 7th).  
• Sven-Harry Konstmuseum (various art mediums)- Their upcoming fall exhibition with be "Party for Öyvind" (Sep 9th to Jan 23rd). You can also visit a replica of the founder's home on the rooftop, which is filled with his art collection.

Keep in mind that there are still restrictions in place in Stockholm due to the pandemic and this has a tendency to change month to month. To be sure of current restrictions (for example, the number of guests allowed), check the museums' website (all linked above) to get current information regarding how they handle Covid restrictions.
